Welcome to Huxley Gorge Horse Trekking. We’re excited to share our beautiful backyard in the Alpine High Country with you.

Huxley Gorge Horse Trekking is owned and operated by the Wigley family—specifically Caroline, whose lifelong passion for both horses and the high country has made this dream a reality.

Our home, Huxley Gorge Station (together with the adjoining Glen Lyon Station), spans 34,000 hectares of high country cattle and merino farmland. This land has been cared for by the Wigley family for four generations.

The Mackenzie Country and Mt Cook National Park are deeply connected to our family history. Rodolph Wigley, the first generation at Huxley Gorge Station, was a pioneer of New Zealand tourism and the founder of the Mt Cook Group of tourism and transport companies.

Horses have always been central to life on the station. For generations they’ve been trusted companions—essential for moving stock, travelling across the land, and simply being part of daily life. Without them, much of the work here wouldn’t be possible. They are loyal, steady, and the best way to calmly and effectively cover this remarkable country.

We are proud and excited to welcome you into our world, to share our story, and to let you experience our slice of paradise from the best seat in the house—on horseback.
